About 3 years ago, my father had his first heart attack back in
February of 2007. It was major and he actually had a flatliner. We
thought he was gone for good. But thank goodness he made it through. It
made me reassess my health. I was about 80kg at 5'5, had no exercise
whatsoever and ate tons of fastfood and junkfood. And to add, my
father's side of the family had histories of heart problems while my
mother's side of the family had histories of high blood pressure. I was
really in for a treat!
So I've decided I needed to make a
change. I began reading health and fitness articles in the internet and
then finally encountered Men's Health; first the magazine then the
forum. Lucky for me, we have free gym facilities at the place I work.
Like most of the beginners, my initial thinking was to hop into one of
those treadmills and run til kingdom come. As I continue to read and
research more, I discovered weight training. The next time I visited
the gym, I tried every machine out there and of course did tons of what
every newcomers like me love to do... the bicep curls.
A
few more months and couple MH issues more taught me I have to use the
free weights. I figured this is something I need a proper program for
so I sought the help of CroMagnon. I enrolled in his distance coaching
program on Nov 2007. It may not be a setup that most people are exposed
to or would prefer but I think it's the one that works for me
considering the schedule and all. Weeks later into the training, I
started noticing results: I felt stronger, I felt healthier, and I
started losing weight and kept it off.
I've
decided exercising will be a part of my life from now on and I actually
want to push myself harder by reaching a single digit bodyfat
percentage.
Here are my progress pics by the way (currently at 68kg):

I
know I'm still far from what I would like to achieve, but as long as
I'm closer today than I was yesterday then I can sleep soundly at
night.
Thanks CroMagnon!
